CPM Services provides Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) services to businesses requiring experienced, independent leadership during periods of financial distress, operational instability or significant organisational change. Our CRO services are designed to provide practical, hands-on management and restructuring expertise to assist companies in stabilising their operations, addressing financial challenges and implementing the changes necessary to restore business sustainability.
A Chief Restructuring Officer is generally appointed to oversee and coordinate the restructuring or turnaround of a business, working alongside existing directors, shareholders, management teams and other stakeholders. Depending on the circumstances and the terms of the appointment, the CRO may assume responsibility for implementing a restructuring strategy, managing cash flow, negotiating with creditors, overseeing operational improvements and ensuring that agreed recovery measures are effectively implemented.
Unlike a formal Business Rescue Practitioner appointed under Chapter 6 of the Companies Act 71 of 2008, a CRO ordinarily operates outside the statutory business rescue framework, with responsibilities and authority determined by the terms of the appointment and the company’s governance arrangements. This provides businesses with an opportunity to obtain experienced restructuring assistance without necessarily commencing formal business rescue proceedings.
Through the combined experience of Pat Pattinson and Jaco Durandt, CPM offers a practical understanding of the challenges associated with managing financially distressed businesses. Our experience in business rescue and turnaround management enables us to approach restructuring assignments with a clear focus on financial discipline, operational accountability, stakeholder engagement and the implementation of realistic recovery strategies.
CPM’s CRO services may include the development and implementation of short- and medium-term cash flow strategies, the restructuring of financial obligations, negotiations with lenders and creditors, the identification of non-core assets for disposal, the improvement of operational efficiencies and the establishment of appropriate reporting and performance monitoring systems. Particular emphasis is placed on ensuring that management decisions are aligned with the company’s recovery objectives and that progress is regularly measured against agreed milestones.
At CPM Services, we recognise that successful restructuring requires more than the preparation of a turnaround plan. It requires decisive leadership, effective implementation and ongoing accountability. Our CRO services are therefore focused on providing businesses with the independent expertise, practical direction and management support necessary to navigate difficult circumstances, restore stakeholder confidence and achieve sustainable operational and financial recovery.
